How to Choose Your Bathrobe: A Guide to Sizes, Materials, and Styles
The bathrobe is the symbol of a cozy day, whether at the spa or simply at home after a bath. But finding the bathrobe that perfectly meets our expectations in terms of comfort, use, and aesthetics can be a challenge. Size, material, or weight—RKF Home guides you in choosing the perfect bathrobe!
Choosing the Right Material: An Essential Factor
One of the most important factors when selecting your bathrobe is the material. Depending on how you plan to use your bathrobe, your sense of aesthetics, or your preference for how the fabric feels against your skin, you'll naturally be drawn to a particular material.
Cotton is the most common material for bathrobes, as it's natural, comfortable, and absorbent, making it ideal for post-bath use. At RKF Home, we specialize in designing luxury bathrobes for spas and five-star hotels. That's why we've improved the traditional cotton bathrobe with our patented fabric, Dreamsoft.
Our Dreamsoft bathrobes are made of 50% cotton and 50% polyester, offering a soft, blanket-like surface on one side and a fluffy, absorbent terry cloth surface on the other.
Another option we offer is the honeycomb weave bathrobe, which is a highly versatile choice. The honeycomb fabric is absorbent, durable, and, most importantly, elegant with its textured pattern.
For less absorbent bathrobes intended for lounging, satin or velvet are great alternatives, offering unmatched softness and lightness.
Choosing the Ideal Weight
The weight of a bathrobe is measured in grams per square meter (g/m²), and as we explained in our article on bath linen weight, the higher the weight, the greater the fabric's absorbency.
RKF's terry cloth has a weight of 600g/m², making it highly absorbent but somewhat heavy. Knowing that some people prefer lighter fabrics, we've created our Dreamsoft bathrobes, which are just as absorbent as terry cloth but more comfortable, with a weight of 360g/m².
Bathrobes made from lighter fabrics (such as microfiber or bamboo fabric) can have a weight of under 300g/m². However, these bathrobes are not suitable for post-bath use. Finally, our honeycomb bathrobes are slightly heavier than Dreamsoft, at 500g/m², since they are padded with terry cloth on the inside.
Choosing the Right Size
Bathrobes for Men and Women
Adult bathrobes are available in the traditional sizing system: XS, S, M, L, XL, and XXL. Whether you're looking for a men's or women's bathrobe, we recommend selecting the same size as your usual clothing, especially if you prefer a fitted, tailored look.
If you prefer a looser fit, feel free to opt for one size larger. You can always adjust your bathrobe with the belt and roll up the sleeves to maintain practicality.
Bathrobes for Children
Children's bathrobes follow a size system based on age: 2 years, 4 years, and up to 16 years. This sizing system isn't exact, so we also recommend considering your child's build. If you're looking for a bathrobe that can be used for longer, you may want to choose a size up.
RKF Home also offers baby bath capes, the equivalent of a bathrobe for little ones. The size is one-size-fits-all: 80 x 80 cm, large enough to comfortably wrap your baby in a cocoon of softness.
Choosing the Shape of Your Bathrobe
You might think all bathrobes look alike, but that's far from true! When you look closely, details such as collars, pockets, and the presence of a hood make a significant difference.
The collar is undoubtedly the most distinctive feature of your bathrobe. It's on this detail that you can express your originality:
- Shawl Collar: A wide collar that extends beyond the shoulders, creating a cozy, enveloping effect. This style is very popular with women for its elegant look.
- Kimono Collar: A finer collar, giving the bathrobe a lighter, more understated style, but equally elegant! The kimono collar is used in both men's and women's bathrobes.
- Tailored Collar: A lapel collar, similar to the one found on a suit jacket or coat. This more “formal” collar contrasts beautifully with the typically casual style of a bathrobe.
Find the Style That Suits You
Material, weight, collar type, and size are all technical factors, but don't forget that your bathrobe should first and foremost appeal to you aesthetically!
The color of the bathrobe, piping, embroidery, and trim—these "details" are actually of great importance. To fully enjoy your bathrobe over time, choose the one that you desire most!
